Projection Screens Without Compromise.

Welcome to SmX Video Projection Screens

SmX is a manufacturer of the finest award winning fixed video projection screens and motorized masking systems. Our video screen systems include the ProLine series, which is our flat fixed frame system;

the ProCurv series, our curved fixed frame system; and our ProMask systems, which are our motorized video masking systems (flat and curved—2 way and 4 way).

All of our fixed frame and masking systems come complete with any one of our fine front projection screen surfaces, including our proprietary patent pending CineWeave™ HD White or Grey audio transparent screen surface, the CineMatte Plus solid screen surface, or any of our rear projection screen surfaces.

The combination of any of these screen surfaces matched with any of our projection screen systems provides the highest quality projection screen available on the market.

All Projection Screens are Not Created Equal
CineWeave™ HD A screen surface so good that Hollywood post production studios use it to produce the very same movies you will ultimately be watching on it.

One of the integral parts of SmX is the SmX CineWeave™ HD, an audio transparent projection screen surface that will not only provide one of the most incredible projected images you will ever see, but will also allow audio to pass through the projection screen surface without distortion.

Pure Color Accuracy

The CineWeave projection screen surface starts with pure color

accuracy. The specially formulated white color of the CineWeave achieves dead neutral accurate color reproduction.

Other video projection screens can color shift, making projected images appear to push blue, green, or red. This push of color creates an unnatural balance to your projected image. The CineWeave™ HD is completely neutral in color reproduction, thereby providing complete balanced color uniformity for truly natural vibrant color.

The industry reference standard is a NIST traceable magnesium white block that is a 99.9999999% uniform visible light reflectance standard. Third-party tests show that the magnesium is measured at 0.306 - 0.338 - 6889; the SmX CineWeave™ HD is measured at 0.305 - 0.337 - 6844.

All testing was conducted with a Photo Research PR-650 Spectra Colorimeter. Color consistency is constantly monitored to assure ISO 9000 standards.

The Highest Gain Weaved Screen (1.16 Gain)

The CineWeave™ HD is currently the highest gain weaved audio transparent projection screen surface on the market. The gain of the SmX CineWeave™ HD gives your projected image a back lit look. That is, the projected image will not look as if it is just being projected on a screen material such as that of other weaved screens with a negative gain. Other matte white woven audio transparent screens on the market have negative gains as low as -.83

The comparison noted above was conducted side-by-side with two other leading matte white weaved screens using an IRE-100 test screen.

Moiré Free with all Digital and CRT Projectors

A common problem with today's high resolution digital projectors and audio transparent movie screens is moiré. Moiré is caused when the projection screens perforation pattern aligns with the digital projectors pixel pattern or screen door. Every projector, attachable lens, screen size, offset, and throw distance differs from person to person.

The only guaranteed way to eliminate moiré is the ability to adjust for it on site. The SmX ProLine and ProCurv frames eliminate moiré possibilities by allowing you to adjust the CineWeave™ HD projector screen material.

Increased Contrast

Another special feature of the White CineWeave™ HD projection screen material is its ability to increase the contrast of your projected image. A Grey projection screen is usually necessary to increase contrast, but a Grey screen sacrifices gain (brightness).

The White CineWeave™ HD weave was formulated to increase contrast by using the voids throughout the acoustically transparent screen. These voids in the CineWeave™ HD produce just enough black without sacrificing gain or resolution. You cannot achieve increased contrast such as this from a solid white projection screen; the increase of contrast is just one of the features that makes the CineWeave™ HD special.

Increased Sharpness

The SmX CineWeave™ HD helps increase the sharpness of your

projected image. This works especially well for projectors with a softer projected image such as D-ILA, LCOS and CRT technology. The perceived sharpness of the SmX CineWeave™ HD even makes HD projected images look more defined with DLP and LCD technology.

It has been said that the CineWeave™ HD provides a sharper picture than some solid screens currently on the market today.

160 Degree Viewing Angle

Screens with a high gain generally have narrow viewing cones, which means that the screen's brightest point is usually in the center when you are sitting in the center of the room. With other high gain screens, the gain drops as low as half at 15 to 50 degrees off the center, similar to an older technology rear projection TV.

The CineWeave™ HD provides a full 160 degree viewing cone without any loss of gain; therefore the image of the CineWeave™ HD will be consistently bright from edge-to-edge at all viewing angles.

Screen Sizing and Aspect Ratios

Utilizing an Audio Transparent Screen
One of the great benefits of the CineWeave™ HD is the ability to hide the speakers behind the projection screen. Some speakers are not meant to be seen and can be quite a distraction in a home theater. The main dialogue and music in a commercial theater comes from behind the screen. Learn how to use a CineWeave™ HD screen in a home theater.

Acoustically Transparent - Needs No EQ

Unlike perforated and micro-perforated screens, the CineWeave™ HD

requires no EQ on the speakers behind it. It is truly audio transparent and will not audibly alter the sound of your speakers nor comb filter audio like a perforated screen will.

Sound-stage as Hollywood intended it
Unlike a solid projection screen, the acoustically transparent CineWeave™ HD allows speakers to be placed directly behind it.

This is the same method Hollywood uses when they mix the dialogue and soundtrack for movies. It localizes audio so that it comes out of the actors’ mouth as in commercial theaters, not above or below the screen.

No Noticeable Perforations with SmX

Just to give you an idea, a micro-perforated screen had the world's smallest perforated hole in a movie screen. So how does the SmX CineWeave™ HD perforation size compare to that of a perforated or micro-perforated screen?Actual size side-by-side comparisons are shown below:

Perforated
SmX CineWeave™ HD
Micro - Perforated

A perforation in a micro-perf screen is about .02" ; this is extremely small but still noticeable by many people viewing from standard seating distances. The perforation in the SmX CineWeave™ HD is about 3.5 times smaller than a Microperf. In fact, for every 65 holes on a Microperf projection screen, the SMX has 182 perforations/sound holes.

Clear Consistent Bright Vibrant Image
Screens with a gain usually do not have a consistent image from edge to edge. This is due to hot spotting or brightness drop outside of narrow viewing cones.

This inconsistency is caused from using a pearlescent coating to create a gain. SmX promises you a clear, consistent, bright, vibrant image from edge to edge.

No Sparklies
Most screens with gain use pearlescent to create a positive gain; this is known to cause “sparklies."

The CineWeave™ HD does not use pearlescent to get its gain, so there will be no sparklies during viewing.

Black Backing is Not Needed

Other weaved audio transparent movie screens require a black backing in order to assure that light does not pass through the screen and reflect on something from behind the screen. SmX uses an opaque, thicker material to help avoid the need for a black backing.

If your unique situation requires a black backing, our screen systems are black backing ready.

Durability

The CineWeave™ HD is an extremely strong screen surface that will withstand the test of time. It is impossible to tear by hand or by flying blunt objects. It also can be easily cleaned using a mild white Ivory soap, water, and a soft brush.

Lifetime Warranty
Our Pro-Line and Pro-Curv Frames are backed with a Lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.
